A number of building, road and other infrastructure improvements are coming to the Yazoo County School District.
Superintendent Dr. Ken Barron said the district is now addressing an erosion issue near the entrance of the district campus and will also be looking for future funds to assist in future road projects.
“There is a section on the south side of the campus where it is washing away pretty bad,” Barron said. “If we continue to lose that embankment, that roadway could become very instable. The project to resolve that issue will also result in additional space for our band and soccer field.”
Barron added that the district is moving forward to working with Legislation on pursuing additional funds to perhaps construct a second road into the district campus, resembling a horseshoe shape. But he said that project may not begin until the next fall season.
In other news, the school district board will be seeking bids to renovate the exterior of the high school building. The new exterior would be similar to the metal exterior found on the administrative office and the middle school.
The district will also be undergoing professional development training for the Why Try Program, which is a social and emotional learning program that provides tools and training to help motivate students. The district, in an effort to make improvements in student attendance, discipline referrals, academic performance and graduation rate, chose to begin the implementation of the Why Try Program.
