Citizens continue to express their frustration with the local ambulance service, with one resident telling county leaders the ambulance never even showed up after she called 911.
Since early December, members of the Yazoo County Board of Supervisors say they have been bombarded with complaints regarding MedStat, the company that provides local ambulance service to the county. From unprofessional service to sporadic response times, the county board said they have heard it all when it comes to the local provider.
Mary Wilkerson appeared before the county supervisors during its Monday meeting to share her issue with the ambulance service.
Wilkerson, of 224 North Cherry St., said she called 911 when her 89-year-old aunt was having problems breathing.
“The fire department responded immediately,” Wilkerson said. “The firemen stayed with us and waited on the ambulance for 40 minutes. The ambulance never showed up.”
Concerned about her aunt, Wilkerson said she took her to the local hospital in her own vehicle after waiting nearly an hour for the ambulance to arrive.
Wilkerson said she complained to the ambulance provider and was told two of their ambulances were “out of service.”
“They said the third one was between Humphreys and Yazoo County,” Wilkerson said.
District 5 Supervisor Cobie Collins, board president, said the complaints against MedStat have increased over the last few months. He assured Wilkerson that the county board would address the issue.
“We take it really seriously on this board,” Collins told Wilkerson. “I will personally get back with you on this matter.
Later in the meeting, Pafford EMS presented an overview of their ambulance service to the board.
