A correctional officer resigned from his post after being charged with bringing contraband into the local correctional facility.
Willie Harrison was charged with smuggling contraband into a correctional facility.
The incident was brought to light amidst discussion about the conditions of the Yazoo County Correctional Facility at the recent Yazoo County Board of Supervisors meeting.
Sheriff Jacob Sheriff said two coolers were brought to the facility for the kitchen, but one of those coolers held contraband inside.
Harrison allegedly brought the coolers into the complex and had inmate trustees bring the coolers into the kitchen on the side that houses state inmates.
Jail officials said contraband smuggling has declined, but they said there are still issues on the state side of the facility. It is on the side that houses state inmates where contraband brings in more money for items.
When another correctional officer noticed a top missing on one the coolers, the scheme was exposed.
Warden Jay Shaw said the officer was charged and resigned from his post.
