A convicted sex offender pleaded guilty this week after molesting a child in Tinsley in spring of 2015.
Jerry Poarch, of Pocahontas, was arrested by the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department on April 25, 2015 after he lured a child to a local church where he sexually assaulted her. He was charged with gratification of lust.
Poarch pleaded guilty to that charge last Friday in Yazoo County Circuit Court. Judge Jannie Lewis sentenced him to 20 years, with five years suspended. With credit for time served, he will serve a total of 15 years. He was also given five years of post-release supervision.
In 2015, witnesses noticed a black truck driven by Poarch in the Tinsley area. The victim was also able to provide a detailed description of the truck, Poarch and what happened.
A member of the victim’s family told The Yazoo Herald she was pleased with the verdict, and she was glad Poarch accepted a plea deal so that the victim did not have to testify.
Poarch was convicted of a similar crime in Madison County in 2008. He is a registered sex offender.
