For a second straight meeting, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen did not accept any of the bids to replace the heating and cooling system at the Yazoo City Police Department.
During the previous meeting the board rejected the bids after Ward 3 Alderman Rev. Gregory Robertson said he believed one local contractor was unfairly excluded from the process. Ward 2 Alderman Dr. Jack disagreed, and urged the board to accept the lowest bid.
This week the board tabled the bids because members did not believe the bids were presented in a manner that made it easy to compare the proposals.
The board received bids from several companies ranging from just over $43,000 to $52,060. Some of the proposals also offered different warranties.
Members of the board expressed frustration at the manner in which the bids were presented for their review which required them to flip back and forth between the various proposals.
Mayor Diane Delaware said she would like to see a summary of all the bids on a single page.
Varner made a motion to table the bids until they could be presented in a manner that is easier to understand.
“I second that motion,” Delaware said. “I don’t understand why these bids keep coming in like this.”
The air conditioning system at the department is working well enough to keep the officers comfortable. During the winter months the heating system was not working.
