Back in the days when daily newspapers published free obituaries, reporters assigned to write them sometimes jokingly complained about retired farmers.
Their list of survivors tended to be long, thus requiring more time to type them into the obits, as well as increasing the possibility for error, such as misspelling a name.

Lady Mavs defeat Carroll 5-4

Claire Stevens and Molly McBride each drove in three runs to help lead Manchester Academy to a 12-3 win over Carroll Academy Monday.
Carroll scored the first run, but Emma Roberts, Embrie Carpenter and Alley Grace Ables all single in the bottom of the second to give the Lady Mavericks a 4-1 lead.

24-year-old Benton man dies in auto accident

A 24-year-old Benton man was killed in an auto accident Sunday morning.
John Tyler Lucas died after the truck he was driving struck a tree on Neely Road just north of Dover Road.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said that Lucas was wearing his seatbelt. Shivers said excessive speed was likely a factor in the accident.
