Dear Editor,
Coach Santa will be promoting reading during the 2024 school year. It is never too early to introduce a child to reading.
Experts say that most children learn to read by age 6 or 7.This does not mean a child cannot read before then. Parents, I urge you to read to your children often, and let them explain to you what you read to them. A child comprehending what they read makes for a child headed in the right direction for getting a good education.
I am asking this community to support Santa in this effort. I would like to see reading programs throughout this community. I encourage our churches to rise to this occasion, open those doors during the week and not just on Sundays, with a vision of promoting our future through the church.
Let reading be your focus.Too many of our children act out in school because they cannot read. This happens in our lower and higher grades. We must identify those students and give the help they need.
Parents you know better than anyone where your child stands. Take a bigger role in their education. You are the first responders. It's your job. Too many of us are not doing our jobs at home. That is where it starts.
Reading and writing are mentioned several times, and God's will to have the scripture in writing suggests that His plan for all people is to be able to read and write. The reason He wants us to read and write is to understand His every word.
Reading is a gateway to learning anything about everything. It helps you discover new things that will shape your future. Let us give our children one: A FUTURE.
Sincerely,
Coach Santa/Coach Johnny Staples
