The Yazoo City Lady Indians trailed the Humphreys County Cowgirls for most of last Friday night’s game before making a huge fourth quarter comeback.
In the end, however, the Lady Indians needed a few more minutes and ultimately dropped a 54-50 decision.
The loss drops the Lady Idians to 1-7 on the season.
“We’re rebuilding this season and like most rebuilds, the early going is tough,” said YHS head coach Joffre Washington. “We have several new pieces who are getting their first real experience of high school basketball along with a few freshman in the mix. It’s going to take some time, but if we continue to work hard the wins will come. Our non-conference schedule has been tough and that was intentional. It’s going to prepare us for district play and that’s whats important.”
Senior Lakyra Bankhead and freshman Kimora Young led the Lady Indians in scoring with 15 and 13 points respectively.
Other scorers were Jer’Mya Porter with eight, Jamya McCoy with six, and Makenzie Johnson and Makeelah McCullum with four apiece.
The Lady Indians have a busy Thanksgiving week ahead of them as they hosted Greenville on Monday, traveled to Greenwood to play in the Highway 82 Delta Classic on Tuesday and will host rival Canton this Saturday.
The Lady Indians opponent in the Highway 82 Delta Challenge is Amanda Elzy with gametime set for 2:30 p.m.
