A Camden man was sentenced to 30 years behind bars last week after a Yazoo County jury found him guilty of manslaughter and aggravated assault.
Last Friday, Johnny Lee House was sentenced to 20 years on manslaughter and 20 years with ten years suspended on aggravated assault for a total of 30 years to be served consecutively in a state prison.
After a three-day trial in Yazoo County Circuit Court, a jury found House guilty of manslaughter and aggravated assault in connection to a 2022 dice game that turned violent in the Bentonia area, leaving one man dead and six others in the hospital.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said Christopher Turnage, 27, died during surgery for a gunshot wound at the University Medical Center following the 2022 shooting.
“House was initially charged with murder and aggravated assault, but the jury convicted him of the lesser-included offense of manslaughter in connection with the death of 27-year-old Christopher Turnage,” said District Attorney Akillie Malone-Oliver.
The shooting occurred during a trail ride event at Wells Place Farm, resulting in the later death of Turnage, along with six others being hospitalized with injuries. Malone-Oliver added that hundreds were in attendance during the event.
“House’s actions led to a shootout that resulted in several others being injured that evening,” Malone-Oliver said.
