The United States of America dodged a bullet on election day.
Hillary Clinton would have destroyed this country had she been elected president. She was further left than Barack Obama, and her defeat has brought out a cadre of fellow travelers who are literally going insane.
Protest against the election of Donald Trump to the presidency have already begun. Leftists, probably funded by George Soros, the billionaire who wants America to become a clone of France or some other European country, have come out of the woodwork in some of our major cities. Hollywood stars are threatening to leave the country along with some wealthy businessmen who just cannot wrap their minds around the fact that Americans have elected Donald Trump as their president. With the likes of Barbara Streisand and Miley Cyrus threatening to move to Canada, I say, "Don’t let the door hit you in the rear end."
Leftists all over the country are writing sad stories about how hard it is for them to accept the new reality, and Rachael Maddow of MSNBC had a meltdown on the air. Of course, she is so far left that an old Soviet Communist would look like a conservative, but it was fun to watch.
I did run across a quote that I thought summed up the election. Salena Zito wrote in the Atlantic, "The press took him literally, but not seriously; his supporters took him seriously, but not literally." We know that many elected officials in Washington, many of whom were Republican, never took Trump’s candidacy seriously. Why do you think Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell acted the way they did? Why did Fox News, the supposedly conservative leaning network, act the way it did? Why did so-called conservative pundits act the way they did? The simple answer is they could not imagine in their wildest dreams that Trump would be elected to the highest office in the land. "It is impossible," Charles Krauthammer told us, and some people think his is a very smart man. Megyn Kelly, the star of Fox News and a Hillary supporter, thought is was impossible for Trump to be elected. You might blame this on her "New York state of mind."
The polls were wrong, too. One headline read, "Pollsters suffer the biggest embarrassment in history." You and I may live a long time, but we probably will never see an election like this one where the "smartest people in America" were outfoxed by us simple folk.
All I had was a gut feeling. I watched Trump give speech after speech to overflow audiences, yet the pollsters told us that this did not matter. When I logged on to YouTube to watch one of his speeches, I noticed that in addition to the thousands watching in person, another 50 thousand or more were watching on YouTube. When news stories were published and readers were allowed to publish their opinions about Hillary, most of the comments were negative. Yet, the all-knowing pollsters told us that none of this mattered. "Don’t believe your lying eyes," they admonished.
There is this place in America known as the New York - Washington Corridor where nearly all of the national media live and work. To most of us, this is a world that we do not recognize because it is unlike America in almost every way. Yet, this is where the bulk of the news and commentary are produced. Most of what is produced and peddled as news is produced through a liberal templet. The people in this "conservative free zone" bear little in common with those of us in "fly over country."
Take a look at the electoral map, the one that divides the country into red and blue parcels. Red symbolizes those areas that voted for Donald Trump. The map is basically red. The only blue areas are the big cities like Los Angeles, New York, Baltimore, Chicago, and San Francisco.
I honestly thought that perhaps the leftists had taken over this country, and that Hillary would deliver the death blow to America. But no, the American people stepped up to the plate and said enough is enough.
Already, I am sensing a new sense of purpose and optimism, and I believe that America is back. It’s a great feeling, folks!
