It was just a matter of time before it happened. It was almost as predictable as the sun rising in the east. Last Wednesday, a person filled with hate cut loose with a rifle at a practice baseball field in Alexandria, Virginia, in an attempt to kill Republican lawmakers.
James T. Hodgkinson traveled from Ohio to Virginia to carry out his despicable act against a group of lawmakers who had gathered to practice for a congressional baseball game that raises money for charity.
This shooting is the result of leaders fanning the flames of hate by spinning conspiracy stories that have no basis in fact. Since President Trump was sworn into office, we have had a steady diet of hate speech and “fake news” from certain quarters of the media and Democrats, and this toxic rhetoric has finally caused a person who was borderline crazy to act out on his evil thoughts. The media thinks it is alright to depict “stabbing the President to death” (New York play) and holding up a picture of Trump with a severed head (Kathy Griffin).
History tells us that this was not the first political shooting in America, and I predict that it will not be the last. Does the name John Hinckley ring a bell with you? Hinckley is the man who attempted to kill President Reagan. Hodgkinson and Hinkley had a great deal in common since both of them, because of their mental instability, could be easily influenced to commit vicious crimes against political leaders.
Democrats in Congress and the news media have worked closely together to rev up a story that is totally false. They claim on a nightly basis that Trump and his surrogates colluded with the Russians to cheat Hillary Clinton out of the presidency. There is no evidence for this theory whatsoever. No one has been seen giving secret information to the Russians. Attorney General Jeff Sessions put to rest last week any question that he colluded with the Russians to help President Trump win the presidency.
Now we have a special prosecutor who has already shifted the investigation from “collusion” to “obstruction.” The narrative is changing daily. If the Democrats and the Trump haters cannot prove one thing, they will try to prove something else. All of these investigations are in search of a crime - anything to nail Trump.
Now the Democrats are at it again using language that is sure to fire up the mentally unstable among us. They are calling for impeachment, a tactic that is sure to fail. They think they can prove that President Trump “obstructed” the FBI in its investigation of General Flynn. But just the charge itself motivates their base.
Slowly but surely, some thoughtful reporters are asking for hard evidence that Trump colluded with the Russians to steal the election for Hillary. What exactly did the Russians do to derail Hillary’s campaign? There is absolutely no evidence that President Trump or his staff did anything with the Russians to destroy Hillary’s campaign. She took care of that herself.
Leaders must realize that there are mentally unstable people among us who blend in very well. To the casual observer, they may appear normal, but beneath the surface, they are ready to explode. Inflammatory rhetoric that has been coming from the media and the Democrat Party may be the blasting cap that finally “radicalizes” these individuals and causes them to act out in much the same way that James T. Hodgkinson did last week. We are living in a dangerous time.
