Stealing someone’s family pet to use for dog fighting is just about as despicable as you can get.
Stealing the beloved family pet of a law enforcement officer is just plain stupid.
That’s what appears to have happened this week right in my own neighborhood.
Yazoo County Deputy Lamar Tindle’s dog Georgia usually isn’t hard to find. I usually get a greeting from Georgia as I pass by her yard traveling to and from my home.
The Tindles immediately knew something was wrong when Georgia was missing this week.
Fortunately they didn’t waste any time putting together an aggressive search.
Amy Tindle bombarded social media with photos of Georgia and pleas for help finding her. Friends gladly helped look for Georgia.
They did such a good job of getting the word out that Lamar Tindle got a tip about what happened to his dog.
Someone saw the driver of a green Honda Accord stop and pick Georgia up. That set the stage for an investigation that ended with a suspect in custody and Georgia getting to come back home where she belongs.
This story has a happy ending, but it’s scary to think what might have happened if this family had not conducted such an aggressive search and Lamar Tindle did not have the skills to follow the leads.
Georgia was going to become a “bait dog” for dogfighters. Bait dogs are basically live practice for fighting dogs. They have nothing to look forward to except for a violent and painful death.
It’s hard to believe that there is anyone sick enough to consider watching something like that a good time, but dog fights have quite a following these days.
Georgia was found in a trailer with no food or water on Davis Avenue.
If the suspect is proven guilty of this crime, and there’s a mighty strong case considering investigators say that he has confessed to stealing Georgia and other dogs, I hope the court system throws the book at him. Yazoo County needs to send a clear message that this is not a friendly environment for animal abusers.
If I were one of the lowlifes associated with the suspect’s dog fighting operation, I would be very concerned. A guy who goes around stealing friendly pets out of someone’s yard has already demonstrated that he is a coward.
He’s probably going to crack very easily under pressure. He’s probably going to name names.
That’s bad news for dog fighters in Yazoo County, but it’s great news for those of us who consider our pets to be part of our families. .
