One thing we know about the Democrat Party is that it brings new meaning to disorganization. There was the Bernie Sanders crowd chanting Bernie. There was the Elizabeth Warren faction hoping that some how "Crooked Hillary" would make her the vice presidential candidate. There were other assorted factions - socialists, communist, fascist, and anarchists, in the crowd, all vying for attention.
Then there was Leon Panetta. Over the years, Panetta has served well for the Democrats. He single-handedly saved the Clinton Administration. If you will remember, Clinton and his band of merry men had lost their focus. There was no organization or discipline in the White House. In fact, one reporter described the White House as "Animal House," and I believe it. Once when Clinton did a speech in the Rose Garden, he walked back to the White House followed by all of his cronies. Once he had entered the White House, those following him all jammed into the door way, almost crushing each other. Well, all of that changed when Panetta came on board as the Chief of Staff. Panetta was the second through doorways only preceded by the president. Discipline was restored, and Clinton was able to complete his term in office.
He served as the Secretary of Defense under Barack Obama and CIA director. He has held some impressive jobs. But when his turn came to address the DNC, he was booed off the stage. I could tell that this hurt the old fellow, but what did he expect? Love and kisses from a bunch of radicals who literally think that this country is the cause of all evil in the world. Had I been in his shoes, I would have walked off the stage with a certain finger held high.
When it was time for "Crooked Hillary" to give her speech, she pranced onto stage in a white on white pants suit that, I suppose, symbolized purity. But even as she acknowledged the adoration of the crowd, I kept thinking about Benghazi and the 33,000 e-mails that she allegedly destroyed. I thought about all of the money she had taken from Wall Street, and for the life of me, I could not see how she was going to "thread the needle" and make herself look pure and innocent as the wind driven snow.
The truth is that she has no major accomplishments for her 35 years in public life. She may have been the worst Secretary of State in American history, and there were certainly no earth shattering accomplishments while she was in office. The re-set with Russia was a joke, and the rest of the damage she did with Lybia and Benghazi is public record.
She gave a well-written speech that was long on flowery language and short on substance. She talked about her experience and that Donald Trump did not have the "temperament" to be president. The meat in the coconut was her appeal to college age students that she would cancel their student debt and make sure that a college education was free to all who wanted to attend.
She left no doubt that she was a ‘progressive." In case you don’t know what a "progressive" is let me explain. A "progressive" is a socialist. She wants to make companies share their profits with its employees, raise taxes to a level that even Bernie Sanders would admire, and continue to downsize our already depleted military.
She screamed and pointed her finger through much of the speech much like an out of control parent lecturing her rowdy kids. When the screaming started, I hit the mute button until she calmed down.
The amazing thing in this speech was that she threw Wall Street under the bus. She wants to regulate them out of business even though Wall Street has given her over 21 million dollars in the last two years for 15 minute speeches. If she is elected president, and if she follows through on what she said she wanted to do, then Wall Street has bet on the wrong horse.
The Democrat Party is a house divided. They booed one of their wisest men off the stage, and they think Hillary will led them to victory. Time will tell.
