Nominations for several Yazoo City boards and committees were opened last week with city leaders placing their first selection of nominees. The nominations will remain open until the Board of Mayor and Aldermen cast their votes for appointments at a later time.
For the Historical Preservation Board, Mayor David Starling nominated Yolanda Curry to be reappointed to her post.
For the Parks and Recreation Board, Starling nominated Willie Richardson to be reappointed to his post.
For the Planning and Zoning Board, Starling nominated Daniel Pender and Oliver Sampson to be reappointed to their posts. Alderman Charlie Jenkins nominated Rev. Robert Green to replace Pender. However, Starling said he would also be nominating Pender to replace Robert Barton, who resigned from his post, if the votes required it.
For the Public Service Commission, Alderwoman Elizabeth Thomas nominated Susie Greer to replace MacArthur Straughter, whose term ends in July.
For the Triangle Cultural Board, Starling nominated Delosia Miller and Jamie Patterson to remain within their posts.
For the Election Commission, Alderman Macklyn Austin nominated Marcia Arp to remain in her post for Ward 2. Jenkins nominated Barbara Haymer to remain in her post for Ward 1. And Thomas also renominated Mamie Williams to continue to represent Ward 4.
