The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released their State Employment and Unemployment Summary for December of 2023.
Unemployment rates were higher in December in 15 states, lower in 1 state, and stable in 34 states and the District of Columbia, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.
Eighteen states and the District had jobless rate increases from a year earlier, 15 states had decreases, and 17 states had little change.
Nonfarm payroll employment was essentially unchanged in all 50 states and the District of Columbia in December 2023.
Over the year, nonfarm payroll employment increased in 30 states and was essentially unchanged in 20 states and the District.
The current unemployment rate for Mississippi (as of December 2023) stands at 3.3 percent.
For comparison, the unemployment rate for the previous reported month (November 2023) was reported as 3.3 percent.
Mississippi stands at a 0.7 percent decrease from the same point the previous year (December, 2022).
Mississippi's unemployment rate at the beginning of the previous year was 3.9 percent (in January, 2023).
The national unemployment rate currently stands at 3.7 percent, which has remained the same (unchanged) from November 2023 (last month's report).
Mississippi stands at 3.3 percent (a 0.4 percent decrease from the national unemployment rate).
