The Benton Academy softball team is now 3-5 in district and 8-6 overall after two more games this week.
On Monday, Sept. 9, the Lady Raiders defeated Greenville Christian in a conference game, winning with a score of 14-5.
"It was a slow start with neither of us scoring until the 3rd inning," said Coach Natalie Whitehead. "By the bottom of the third the score was 5-1."
Gracey Manor took the mound in this game pitching for Benton. Lexi Boatner stood out on offense by showing out at the plate and bringing home 5 RBIs with a single and two triples. Ella McCain, Clara Ann Yeates, Lauren Pigg, Gracey Manor, and Kaitlyn Warren all contributed to the scoreboard with multiple hits.
The Lady Raiders fell on Tuesday Sept. 10 to Porters Chapel, despite a valiant effort from the Benton girls.
"We played better against Porters Chapel this time around but still were unable to put the ball into play enough to score," Whitehead said.
The Lady Raiders will travel to Carroll Academy next Monday, and will host their last home game and senior night on Tuesday, Sept. 17 against North Sunflower Academy, with varsity starting at 6:30 p.m.
