The Yazoo City Indians have hit the ground running in district play posting a 48-40 win over Greenwood Tuesday night, plus a pair of victories over Gentry and Rosa Fort last week. The Indians, 13-7 overall and 3-0 in conference, hoped to keep their streak alive when they hosted Clarksdale Friday night.
Indians 54, Gentry 47
Yazoo City fell behind early against the visiting Rams, 19-5, but bounced back with a 16-5 second quarter to trail by three, 24-21, at the half. The Indians started to creep away from Gentry in the third quarter posting an 11-6 quarter before sealing the game with a 22-17 run to end the game.
Senior forward Percy Green led the way with 12 points, followed in double figures by Will Grayson and Jacquarrius Collum with 10 apiece. Daon Henry chipped in with nine, Jaquaris Rogers had eight, F.J. Lewis had three and Chris Burnett rounded out the scoring with two.
Indians 92, Rosa Fort 64
The Indians scorched the nets to the tune of 92 points against Rosa Fort in their second district contest. Yazoo City raced out to a 25-17 first quarter lead and led 47-29 at the half. In the third quarter they outscored Rosa Fort 27-11 and scored 18 fourth quarter points to cruise to the victory.
Leading the way was Collum with 19 points followed by Lewis with 17 (five three-pointers), Henry with 14 and Brendan Brown with 12.
Other scorers were Grayson, Rogers and Burnett each with six, Green and Jakori Jones with four apiece, and Javian Plunkett and Damion Clay with two apiece.
Yazoo City battles Jackson Academy Monday, January 20, in the Rumble in the South Classic held at St. Andrews high school. Gametime is set for 9:30 a.m.
