A cheap shot at Yazoo City
We work in the newspaper industry and understand the challenges facing large daily newspapers so we have been reluctant to join the critics of The Clarion Ledger.
Our opinion has always been that the Jackson paper certainly isn’t what it used to be, but it’s better than nothing, and even with all of its shortcomings it’s a far better news source than social media where we constantly see people who should know better being duped into sharing obviously fake news.
With that being said, whoever made the decision to share the “news” story by the clickbait organization known as 24/7 Wall Street dubbing Yazoo City as the 38th worst city in America should be placed on the next bus heading back to where they came from.
To share that story with no analysis, commentary or even just a simple look at the methods used to arrive at such a ridiculous conclusion wasn’t just irresponsible. It was shameful. We cannot understand why a statewide news organization would promote such garbage.
Yazoo City has plenty of problems, and some of them were accurately documented in the article.
We shouldn’t try to pretend like those challenges don’t exist, but we also shouldn’t start beating ourselves up because some geek working for an organization we’ve never heard of who’s never set foot in Yazoo City wrote an inflammatory article using information he found on Wikepedia.
Yazoo City isn’t the 38th worst place to live in America. It isn’t even the 38th worst place to live in Mississippi. There are far more positive things going on in our community than bad things. It’s our responsibility to do what we can to fix the problems.

But don’t waste another minute wondering if Yazoo City is the 38th worst city to live in.
