Robbie Gene Roberts, 85, passed away on August 20, 2019 after a brief illness.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Christa Roberts (Pfankuche,) his parents, Jack and Josie Mae Roberts (Milner,) his brother, James Roberts, and his sister, Bettye Ann Hawkins (Smartt.)
He is survived by his daughter, Tina Arrington (Keith,) two sons, Mark Roberts (Melanie) and Matt Roberts ( Yvonne, ) eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters, Josephine Harris and Jennel Cooper, and his dear companion, Jerrie Foote.
During his 31,316 days on Earth, he left a lasting impact. Born into poverty in 1933, he grew up to become a U.S. Army Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. He met his wife in Germany while deployed. Upon returning home, he plied his trade as a barber, cabinetmaker, ice cream truck driver, television repairman, and MDOC employee .
After retiring, he discovered his talent for writing and spent many hours spinning tales for his Facebook followers before being inspired by their encouragement to compile his stories into a book , Tales from Yazoo and Beyond, which was published in 2017. He published a column featuring those stories that was a popular feature in The Yazoo Herald.
He was a long time member of Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church and recently enjoyed attending First Baptist Church of Jackson with his friend, Jerrie.
His interest in baking and breadmaking kept many of his acquaintances well fed through the years. He was an avid lover of reading, movies, and politics.
