Richard Lamar Johnson, 60 years of age, was born in Jackson, MS. He lived most of his life in Yazoo City for 30 years and has since lived in Ocean Springs since 2011. He is survived by his wife, Jena W. Johnson of Ocean Springs, their two sons Spencer Paul Johnson (Emily Keith) residing in Leland, MS, Richard Alexander Johnson(Alexandra Chancellor, fiancé) residing in Nashville, TN and a brother Donald A. Johnson of Missouri City, TX.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. John P. (Maideen) Pentecost and his father, Mr. Lamar Johnson of Clinton.
Richard graduated from Mississippi State University in 1978 with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering with many distinguished honors, including Outstanding Engineer and was a member of Theta Tau Fraternity. He joined Mississippi Chemical in 1981 and continued a thirty-two year career in combination with the Plants in Yazoo City and with Mississippi Phosphates in Pascagoula, MS. Richard retired from Mississippi Phosphates early in August of 2013 to fight his long battle with cancer. During his career, he served on the Board of American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
Richard was a member of the First Baptist Church of Yazoo City, MS and served as a Youth Director with the Trinity Episcopal Church of Yazoo City, MS as a young adult as well as served on the Vestry of the church. He was also a long time member of the Yazoo Lions Club.
The family wants to extend its sincere appreciation to Dr. Brian Persing, Oncologist and Hospice of Light in Ocean Springs for their excellent medical care as well as the many family and friends who offered support along the way.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday May 3, 2016 as well as a visitation preceding the Funeral at 11 a.m. on Wednesday May 4, 2016 located at Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
