Harold (PAPA) Edward Roe, 85, of Yazoo City, Mississippi, died peacefully at his home on November 27, 2021.
Mr. Roe was born on July 16, 1936 to Archie Mertel and Olive Waive (Blankenship) Roe in their family farmhouse in rural Fayette County, IL. At the time of his birth the farmhouse did not have electricity or indoor plumbing. He attended grade school in a rural one room schoolhouse near the farm in Jimtown, IL and graduated from Vandalia Community High School. He learned to farm while growing up and continued to farm while living in Illinois. He eventually moved to Mississippi to pursue his dream of growing and marketing soybeans in the South. In addition to farming, Mr. Roe drove trucks for logging businesses in the Yazoo City area. Throughout his life he was always willing to help those in need.
On October 2, 1955 he married Cynthia Ann Bingaman in Fayette County, IL at the Hurricane Baptist Church which was across the street from the family farm where he was raised. Together they had three sons, Randall (Randy) Edward, David Kent, and Brent Lee, all of which predeceased Mr. Roe. He married the late Linda Gilmer on March 21, 1981 and helped raise two Stepdaughters.
Mr. Roe is survived by stepdaughters, Tracy (Raymond) Boyd, Colorado, and Jamie (Johnny) House, Imboden, AR; five grandchildren, Dana LeAnn (Jason) Roe-Shelton, Brandon, MS, Courtney (Dave) Roberts, Hensley, AR, Randal Kent (Leann) Roe, Hensley, AR, Brandy Chenault, Yazoo City, MS, and Star Boyd, Colorado Springs, CO; nine great grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers, Norma Jean (Willard) Dawson, Nashville, TN, Betty Elaine (Kenneth) Hall, Greenville, IL, Alvin Irl (JoAnn) Roe, Pekin, Il and Elvin Merl (Audrey) Roe, Canal Winchester, OH; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents Archie and Olive Roe, Mr. Roe was predeceased by his step mother, Dixie McFadden Provence; his wives, Cynthia and Linda; sons, Randall, David, and Brent; grandchildren, David Roe and Shawn Roe; and infant brothers Lester William and Archie Lee.
Visitation with family members will be on Monday, December 6 from 9 – 10 a.m. at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home in Yazoo City, Mississippi. A memorial service will immediately follow visitation at 10 a.m.
