George E. (Mo) Nicholas, died November 22, 2021, at the age of 83 in his home in Yazoo City after a two-year battle with cancer.
A lifelong resident of Yazoo City, Mr. Nicholas attended Yazoo City High School and Mississippi State University before joining the United States Army National Guard.
Mr. Nicholas was deeply patriotic and held a 19-year membership with the American Legion at Post 0007 where he volunteered countless hours of service to the organization until his health prevented him from doing so. He was also an active member of First Baptist Church in Yazoo City where he served on the Security Committee and acted as the head usher for church serves for many years.
He is preceded in death by his father, Soloman Nicholas; his mother, Vashti Nicholas; his sister, Pauline Nicholas Hester; and his brother, Solomon Nicholas, Jr.
A devoted husband and father, Mr. Nicholas is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mrs. Helen Nicholas; his two daughters, Cindy (Steve) Stanford and Diann Crews; his grandchildren, Nicholas (India) Crews, Cobie (Taylor) Watkins, Corbin (Kate) Stanford, and Tess Stanford; his two great-granddaughters, Lennon Watkins and Kathryn Stanford; and his beloved niece Tina (Carl) Hicks.
Services for Mr. Nicolas will take place Friday, November 26, 2021, in the sanctuary at First Baptist Church in Yazoo City. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with the service following at 11 a.m.
