Dicey Dodds Carr McGraw Barbour
Dicey Dodds Carr McGraw Barbour passed away on November 19, 2018. Dicey was born on January 7, 1924 in Yazoo City, MS to the late Harris Gant Carr and Dicey Miller Dodds Carr. Dicey was preceded in death by her son, Harris “Brother” McGraw.
Dicey was a graduate of Yazoo City High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She attended MSCW where she was a member of Lockhart Social Club. Dicey was a graduate of the University of MS with a Bachelor of Science degree. At Ole Miss, Dicey was a member and Vice President of Chi Omega Sorority and a member of the Scholastic Society of Beta Gamma Sigma.
Dicey was married to James A. “Jimmy” McGraw until his death in 1968. They had two children James “Mac” McGraw and the late Harris “Brother” McGraw. She later married William Henry Barbour, Sr. until his death in 1999.
Dicey was involved in many - Junior Auxiliary of Yazoo City, DAR, St Mary’s church choir to name a few. She loved playing golf, tennis, sunbathing and was an avid reader. In her later years she was known to have read several books a week. Although she had a love of reading, she did not have a love of cooking.
Dicey is survived by her son James A. “Mac” McGraw (wife Mary) of Laguna Niguel, CA; grandchildren, Patricia McGraw of Newport Beach, CA, Dicey McGraw Perrine of Tustin, CA, Jamie McGraw of Newport Beach, CA; and Anne McGraw of Nashville, TN; and step-children William H. Barbour, Jr (wife Sherry) of Yazoo City, MS; Genevieve M. Barbour of Jackson, MS; and John McBee Barbour (Deceased) (wife, Linda Kaye) of Winona, MS; and step-grandchildren Fair Hurst (husband Paul) of Jackson, MS; William H. Barbour (wife Nicki) of Jackson, MS; Charles F. Barbour (wife Laura) of Jackson, MS; Genevieve Eley of Jackson, MS; John Barbour (wife Ellie) of Cabot, AR; Catherine Allman (husband Trey)of Winona, MS.
Stricklin-King Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. Services will be held Tuesday, November 27 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
