Three new commissioners on the Yazoo City Housing Authority Board were sworn in this week for its first special call meeting with the new board.
Herbert Scott Jr., Carolyn Johnson and Veronica Starling joined Danny Neely and Mamie Williams, who were voted to remain on the board by the city council.
Former commissioners John Meeks, Dawn Gainwell-Dodd and Richard Griffin were removed by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, following concerns over credit card discrepancies and improper minutes.
New officers were also selected Wednesday afternoon with Neely being named the board chairman and Williams selected as vice chairman.
The new Housing Authority board also voted to remove Meeks and Gainwell-Dodd names from all banking and business accounts at the Bank of Yazoo City and Regions Bank. Neely’s name was then placed on all those accounts.
Barry Bridgforth, the Housing board attorney, also informed the board that the multi-million dollar Rental Assistance Demonstration project continues to progress. The program will renovate close to 270 housing units at various properties within the Housing Authority.
