A Louisiana man was killed early Saturday morning after the 18-wheeler he was driving flipped over on the interstate.
Kyle Poirier, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene on Interstate 55 in Yazoo County around 5:15 a.m. Saturday.
“He died as a result of injuries received after his transporter truck left I-55, running into the median into the carrier barrier,” said Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers. “The truck then flipped, landing upside down.”
Shivers said when first responders arrived at the scene, Poirier was pronounced dead.
“It took two wreckers and the Jaws of Life over two hours to extricate him from the vehicle,” Shivers said. “His truck was hauling rows of steel. The reason he left the road is unknown.”
The accident is currently being investigated by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
In other news, a train crash occurred in Yazoo City last week with no fatalities.
Three passengers were inside a truck that was struck by a train along a railroad-owned access road.
Investigators said the truck was delivering an ice box to a depot for the railroad.
The road leading to the depot is not a public-access road. It is privately owned by the railroad and has no warning crossings or light. Due to an obstruction of view, the train struck the truck.
One passenger remains in critical condition.
