A Yazoo City man is behind bars after he allegedly attacked and kidnapped his girlfriend, later trying to escape from officers after faking a medical emergency.
Nautica Fletcher, 23, was charged with kidnapping, felony escape, domestic violence and telephone harassment.
Capt. William Nevels, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said the victim was attacked by Fletcher, even choked to the point of losing consciousness. While making the complaint to investigators, the victim was also telephoned and harassed by the suspect.
“He then took her car keys, keeping her inside the house for a couple of hours,” Nevels said. “Refusing to let her leave led to the kidnapping charges.”
A warrant was issued for Fletcher’s arrest, and he was taken to the city jail, where he later complained of chest pains.
“An officer took him to the local emergency room, where medical personnel said there was nothing wrong with him,” Nevels said. “While walking back to the patrol car, Fletcher took off running.”
Nevels said after a brief foot chase, the officer quickly apprehended Fletcher.
Fletcher has a history with law enforcement. He was indicted in 2017 for similar domestic violence charges.
