A routine traffic stop turned into a large drug bust and the arrest of a man wanted for shooting into an occupied vehicle in Jackson.
Sheriff Jake Sheriff said Eddie Perkins, of Perkins Lane in Yazoo County, was stopped at Miss. 433 West and Sadler Road for failing to maintain his lane and improper equipment. Deputies then discovered that he had no driver’s license or insurance.
Perkins was arrested after deputies learned he had a warrant for his arrest issued by the Jackson Police Department for three counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle.
Sheriff said a deputy noticed Perkins attempting to conceal a bag of marijuana before he was taken into custody. A much larger bag containing over a pound of marijuana was then discovered hidden in the back of the truck.
Perkins was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
Sheriff said Perkins’ arrest is an example of the value of patrolling the county. He said deputies will continue to maintain a heavy presence in residential and business areas.
“Though we are small in numbers, we are big in heart,” Sheriff said.
Sheriff added that with the holidays approaching residents need to be more vigilant as crime tends to rise during the holiday season. Report any suspicious activity to the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department at 746-5611.
