Contractor must complete final details before parkway opens

Many Yazooans are beginning to wonder why it is taking so long for the Willie Morris Parkway to open when it appears to be so close to completion.
The answer is that the contractor, Joe McGee Construction, has only completed half of the last remaining projects for the parkway.
An opening date and dedication for the entire parkway will soon be announced as the entire community awaits the city’s multi-million dollar project.
“The contractor is halfway through his items, and he is still working on them,” said Wayne Morrison, city engineer. “We hope, to have it completed soon.”
Morrison also said the majority of the remaining projects are not on the road itself.
“Some of the remaining items can be done outside of the roadway,” Morrison said.
The western end of the parkway from Highway 3 towards Yazoo Valley Electric Association was opened last month.
Construction work also began on WalMart last month with work crews in constant motion on the site. The store is tentatively scheduled to open in April of 2017.
