Sarah Passons Davis left her earthly home on Friday, February 26 surrounded by her children after a short battle with pneumonia.
She was born July 24, 1936 to Major Andrew (Buster) Passons and Lorena Passons. She met and married the love of her life, Lathen E. Davis and was his faithful wife and companion until his death. She was a member of Ogden Baptist Church, serving for a number of years as their director of music. Sarah also taught Sunday School and served on numerous church committees. Always ready with a meal for any family or church need, she was well known for her cooking skill.
Sarah loved to work in her garden and yard, fish, and hunted for many years. She loved spending time with her family and friends and hosted many years of family gatherings. Sarah was a hairdresser for 67 years and had continued working until her recent illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lathen, brothers, W. A. Passons, Preston Passons, E.O. (Buddy) Passons and sister Cornelia Passons. Sarah leaves behind one son, Edward (Diatra) Davis of Bentonia, a daughter Melanie (Rick) White of Raymond, one sister, Carolyn (Bill) Cotten of Cullman, AL, granddaughters Erica (Chad) Parker of Clinton, Kim (Coatney) Tucker of Bentonia, Jennifer (Ryan) Kelly of Hattiesburg, and Allison (Drew) Wilson of Raymond. She was great-grandmother to Davis (Jordan) Parker, Sarah Grace Parker, Riley Tucker, Elizabeth Ann Kelly, Andrew Kelly, Kinley Wilson, and Cooper Wilson. Sarah had one great-great grandson, Jett Parker. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Ogden Baptist Church in Bentonia or Son Valley Ministries in Ridgeland.
Visitation for the family will be Monday, March 1 from 5-7 p.m. at Stricklin-King Funeral Home in Yazoo City. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 2 at Stricklin-King Chapel with burial following in Flora Cemetery.
