The city of Yazoo City welcomes three new employees among its top department heads.
John Carroll, a former deputy clerk with the city of Carson, Calif., joins the city as its new city clerk. Grace Ingram joins the city staff as its new safety and risk manager. And Alma Jones will serve as the city’s new grant manager.
The city clerk position has been vacant for the last several months, following the resignation of former clerk Kaneilia Williams. Mayor Diane Delaware, who has carried on the duties of the city clerk position since Williams’ departure, said she welcomes Carroll into the city’s daily operations. She added that the city clerk position is a vital role with the “building the foundation of the city.”
“John has a long experience in being a city clerk,” Delaware said. “I have discovered, when he comes into my office, that I am not a city clerk. John is a city clerk because he pays attention to all those areas that are required by the government and required by the city to run well.”
Aside from his post in California, Carroll has also worked within the city clerk’s offices of Vicksburg and Canton.
Ingram was also recently hired as the city’s safety and risk manager.
“She comes to us with a lot of experience in getting things done,” Delaware said. “She has been onboard for about three weeks, and she has already made a couple of significant actions that fall under safety and risk management within the city.”
Delaware said another critical role within the city is the position of grant manager, which was filled by Jones.
“She comes to us with some experiences that are very important to grant management, including the application of grants and managing grants,” Delaware said. “There are people who can write and deliver grants to us. Alma comes to us with quality and performance management. She is already working on several grants and making sure we adhere to them.”
