Daisy Mae Johnston went home to Jesus on July 12, 2021 at the age of 93 at her daughter’s home after a brief illness. She was affectionately known as Mae-Mae by family and friends.
Mae was born to Edward Andrew and Mattie Leona Ingram Sudduth on October 5, 1927 in Sunflower County, Mississippi. She was the second of five children. Mae met her husband, Cecil, in Drew. They married March 30, 1945. They were blessed with four children, Carol Jean, Wesley, Judy and Neil. She was a native of Sunflower County but spent most of her life in Leflore County. She was a retired seamstress and homemaker.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Mae enjoyed providing her family with food from her garden, sewing clothes for her family, and playing with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Throughout her entire life she held an unwavering faith in God which she shared with those who surrounded her. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Itta Bena.
She is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Cecil C. Johnston, one son George Wesley Johnston, two brothers Edward and Jessie Sudduth, two sisters Dell Armstrong and Mattie Higginbotham.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Jean (Larry) Bennett of Itta Bena and Judy Leach of Greenbrier, AR and one son, Neil (Elizabeth) Johnston of Vilonia, AR and a special daughter, Priscilla Smith of Silver City; her eight grandchildren, Lori (Brian) Wilson, Laura (Stephen) Jennings, Missie Leach, Wesley Johnston, Caleb Johnston, Cole Johnston, Conner Johnston and Jax Johnston; her five great-grandchildren, Jennifer Wilson, Lindsay (Drew) Rasmussen, Aubrey Anne Wilson, Kaitlyn Leach and Carma Mae Leach; her two great-great-grandchildren, Parker Grace Rasmussen and Ryder Rasmussen; two sisters in law, Clarine Johnston Throneberry of Collierville, TN; and Vera Johnston Griffin of Tunica; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Stricklin King Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. with services to follow at noon at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City, MS. Services will be officiated by Reverend Stan Nowell.
Pallbearers will be, Wesley Johnston, Billy Brewer, Drew Rasmussen, Brian Wilson, Andy Leach and Mike Sudduth
Honorary Pallbearers will be, Caleb, Cole, Conner, and Jax Johnston, Stephen Jennings, Robert Bennett, Jimmy Bennett, Ricky Banks, Bill Staten, Ken Spencer and Sam Hodge.
Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Village or charity of choice.
