Yazoo DAR honors veteran's memory

By THE YAZOO HERALD,

On December 18, 2018, Yazoo Chapter members gathered in Glenwood Cemetery to place a wreath on the grave of the Korea and Vietnam War veteran John Karen Neely (1931-2017).

He was a Lt. Colonel in the United States Air Force who received many honors and awards during his 28 years of military service for America: Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Force Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal.

John’s widow, Lisa, a DAR member from Texas called Yazoo Chapter DAR Regent, Janet Looney Whittington requesting that we place a wreath on his grave through the Wreaths Across America Program. As a Chapter it was decided the Chapter would do this on its own providing the wreath along with a brief ceremony and prayer given by Janet Looney Whittington.

Yazoo Chapter was honored to be a part of remembering this patriot and veteran. The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution has as one of its goals Patriotism and are always looking for ways to honor America’s active military and veterans.
