Following preparations for the upcoming fiscal year budget, Superintendent Ken Barron said he is happy to announce that the Yazoo County School District’s requested funds should lead to a millage reduction from last year.
The county school district will be requesting $7,790,568 for the next year, which includes the homestead exemption not included in the tax levy, Barron said. The requested funds should result in a .09 reduction in millage.
“With the value of a mill for the county school district being set at $163,304, that would result in a millage rate of 46.80 for the county schools; last year's was 46.89,” added Barron. “We are pleased that the property values are increasing in the county, which has brought us to this lower rate.”
The request will be presented to the Yazoo County Board of Supervisors at its next board meeting Monday morning.
