Yazoo County is now 1-0 in district play after a 17-8 victory over O’Bannon.
Dakwon Reasor made three tackles on the opening drive to set the tone for a solid defensive performance for the Panthers.
The Panther’s were driving and threatening to score until Gabe Shaffer’s pass was intercepted on the 10 yard line. O’Bannon was finding a little more momentum on the next drive, but Chandler Hardman turned the tables with an interception of his own.
Hardman then broke loose on a couple of big first down runs before entering the end zone.
Cooper Trammell added the extra point kick for a 7-0 lead with 1:45 to go before halftime.
With just 41 seconds to go in the first half, Landon Lucas recovered a fumble to bring the Panthers offense back to the field.
Trammell tacked on a field goal for a 10-3 lead.
O’Bannon’s only touchdown came late in the third quarter on a 70-yard punt return.
Yazoo County responded with Reasor coming in at fullback and scoring to give the Panthers a 17-8 lead with 11:52 to play after another successful kick by Trammell.
The remainder of the game was a defensive showdown highlighted by Devon Fountain grabbing an interception.
Reasor led the defense with eight tackles. Devon Fountain had six tackles and an interception.
Lucas and Morton had five tackles each.
James Patterson had four tackles, and Vinson Woodberry, Mardarius Allen and Zyon Blunt had three each. Cornelius Coleman had a tackle for loss.
Hardman finished the game with 18 carries for 172 yards and a touchdown. Gabe Shaffer had six carries for 31 yards. Maurico Williams had seven carries for 29 yards. Patterson had two carries for six yards and Kody Everett had one for four.
Kesean Outlaw had 10 receiving yards.
This week the Panthers (4-2) will travel to Greenwood to face Amanda Elzy (0-7). Amanda Elzy is hungry for a win after losing to Thomas Edwards 20-0 last week to fall to 0-2 in the district.
