The investigation continues to determine the cause of a fatal automobile accident in Yazoo County.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said the body of Michael Wilkinson, 46, of Yazoo City, was discovered inside his vehicle down an embankment in the Dover community on Jan. 30.
“The unrestrained driver appeared to have suffered multisystem trauma,” Shivers said. “The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office.”
The sheriff’s department was first contacted last Thursday afternoon by Wilkinson’s family, who reported that they had not been able to locate him after several attempts. The family reported that the last contact with him was 7:30 a.m. that morning.
“The family pinged his phone and located it on Dover Road in Yazoo County,” Shivers said. “Arriving at the location just east of Rose Hill Road, they spotted what appeared to be tracks of a vehicle running off the road.”
Shivers said the area was filled with deep gullies, and it was in one of those gullies that Wilkinson’s 1998 Jeep Wrangler was located.
“It was located some 20 feet down an embankment in a thick wooded area,” Shivers said. “The vehicle had struck several trees and ended up on its side.”
Wilkinson was remembered as a beloved husband, father and friend. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and spent his career working in construction.
