The local community was shocked when the body of an elderly man, riddled with gunshot wounds, was discovered inside his apartment home in the fall of 2018.
Early in the investigation, it did not appear that it was an attempted robbery or even a physical altercation. It was reported that the scene inside the victim’s home appeared “normal” with no signs of a struggle. Four years later, the murder of King Ball is just as mysterious as family and friends remain waiting for justice and closure.
Ball was 79 years old at the time of his murder, and there have been no suspects arrested or charged in connection with his shooting death.
His body was discovered inside his apartment home at 323 East Seventh Street on Oct. 3, 2018. A neighbor found Ball’s body inside his home with multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators with the Yazoo City Police Department at the time of Ball’s murder said it did not appear that there was a struggle inside the home.
“We don’t know if this was a random act or something following an altercation,” said William Nevels, who was a police investigator at the time. “We do have witnesses we are speaking with who heard the gunshots but saw nothing.”
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations also assisted local teams in the case.
Although several people had been brought into the police department for questioning, no suspects were arrested during the early stages of the investigation. Four years later, no arrests or charges have been made in the case.
