The visiting Clarksdale Wildcats were too much for Yazoo City to handle this past Friday night, handing the Indians their eighth straight loss of the season, 56-14.
The Indians were again short-handed Friday night as several 13 players were out with injuries.
Remaining healthy has been the major nemesis of the Indians all season long forcing YHS head coach Sherrod Gideon to play ninth graders who are just not ready for prime time.
“We’ve been battling injuries all year long,” said Gideon. “Our No. 1 running back was lost for the season weeks ago, and we’ve had lineman out. I mean, every time you turn around, it’s something. We’re already a young group, but the injuries have made us have to play guys both ways and that tires them out. If you look at these games, we’ve been in them early, but the longer they go, we just don’t have the depth and experience to compete for four quarters.”
The Indians’ two scores against Clarksdale came courtesy of a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown by freshman Tyler Howard and a touchdown pass from T.J. Rials to Amarion Brown.
