Yazoo City voters will return to the polls on Monday, Feb. 23, for the Democratic primary runoff election for the Ward 1 alderman post.
The runoff election for the Ward 1 post will include incumbent Charlie Jenkins and challenger Deyoung Haymer.
Results from the municipal primary election held earlier this month reported Jenkins with 114 votes versus Haymer’s 86 votes.
The runoff election next week will only be for Ward 1 registered voters.
“Even if you did not cast a ballot in the primary election, you can still vote in the runoff,” reminded Circuit Clerk Robert Coleman. “Even if you claim the Republican party, you can cast a Democratic runoff vote since there was no Republican primary.”
The winner of the runoff election for Ward 1 will face Independent candidate Carl Mitchell in the general election.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
The general election with the entire ballot will be held on April 6.
