Due to the dangerous high rates of speed, Sheriff Jeremy McCoy called off the chase of a wanted suspect over the weekend. But thanks to the cooperation of the public, the suspect was shortly apprehended and placed behind bars.
James Dalton Davis was charged with felony evading, reckless driving and grand larceny.
McCoy said Davis was wanted in connection to a series of thefts within the community. While patrolling on Highway 16, McCoy spotted Davis on a motorcycle that had been reported stolen.
“I called my deputies, and a pursuit soon followed on Highway 16,” McCoy said. “He was traveling at a very high rate of speed. And when the chase led into Yazoo City, I terminated the chase for safety reasons. It wasn’t worth the risk for a potential accident, and we knew we would eventually find him.”
Shortly afterwards, McCoy said his department received a tip on Davis’ whereabouts.
“We found him sleeping in a shed on Judkins Road,” McCoy said. “He put up a good run, but he is headed to the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility. With the help from concerned citizens, another successful arrest was made.”
