Investigators are waiting on fingerprint and dental records to identify a man who was killed after being struck by a train in rural Yazoo County this week.
Terry Gann, chief deputy with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said the accident occurred near Cessna Road in the Anding-Oil City area last Monday.
“We know that it was a middle-age white male,” Gann said. “But we have not been able to identify him at this time. We will be waiting on fingerprint and dental records to see where we can go from there.”
As of press time, Gann also said there have been no missing persons report in the area.
“It was a really remote area of the railroad tracks,” Gann said. “The engineer of the train saw his body before he got to him, but there was no way he could stop the train in time. He was lying on the track so either he possibly passed out or was injured. We are not sure if perhaps he was struck by another train and possibly fell on the track or hit his head and passed out.”
Gann said the railroad law enforcement team is also assisting with the investigation.
“We will be looking at the video footage from the locomotive and see if we can piece together what happened,” Gann said. “Maybe we can see if he was alive when the train hit him.”
