Two suspects who were charged in connection with a kidnapping case following a house raid in Yazoo City last year will now face jail time.
Preston Flowers and Tamela Herrera were arrested in July of 2021 after FBI agents, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and local officers raided a house on Grand Avenue after three juveniles had been reported missing. The three juveniles, ages 16, 13, and 10 were located and placed in protective custody.
Investigators believe they were being held against their will at the home located across from First Baptist Church on Grand Avenue.
Flowers pleaded guilty to kidnapping and child abuse in a Yazoo County Circuit Court. Earlier this month, Judge Jannie Lewis-Blackmon sentenced him to 20 years in jail, with ten years to serve with credit for any time already served, for kidnapping. He was also sentenced to ten years in jail, with five years to serve with credit for any time already served, for child abuse. Those sentence orders will run concurrently.
During a court trail, Yazoo County Circuit Clerk Robert Coleman said Herrera was found guilty of one charge of kidnapping. However, she was found not guilty of a second kidnapping charge.
Coleman said Herrera is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday.
