Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a suspect in the death of a man killed in what officials believe was an ambush shooting earlier this month.
Police Chief Terry Gann, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said the person of interest in the city’s latest shooting incident is Tyler Myles. He added that Myles has a lengthy criminal history and will be charged as a habitual offender.
Andrew Jackson, 28, died from gunshot wounds in what police officials believe was an ambush shooting at a local apartment complex earlier this month. He suffered from two gunshot wounds after a deadly shooting at Yazoo Estates apartment.
“It definitely appears to have been an ambush shooting,” Police Chief Terry Gann told The Herald in a previous article.
Derrick Jackson, the victim’s uncle, appeared before the Board of Mayor and Aldermen during its open meeting Monday afternoon “on behalf of his family.”
“The topic at hand is my sister’s youngest child,” Jackson said. “He is my nephew, but I raised him like my son. He was murdered coming home to attend a funeral. And I have not been given any feedback on the investigation. I just need some answers because this is unacceptable.”
Gann said Patrick Jaco, assistant police chief, had spoken to Jackson prior to the city council meeting this week. But he still implemented a new policy within the police department to address the issue.
“Moving forward, we will dedicate one day a week to call any victim’s immediate family to brief them on the status of their cases,” Gann said. “Cases involving aggravated assault on up will be handled this way. Unfortunately, murder cases can take some time, but we are going to keep them informed.”
To report the whereabouts of Myles, Gann encourages the public to call the police department at 662-746-1131 or Crimestoppers.
