Clinton High School swept Yazoo City High on the basketball court on Friday night.

The Yazoo City Lady Indians jumped out to a first half lead last Friday against Clinton, but were unable to keep the host team at bay in the second half. Trailing by four heading into the second half, the Lady Arrows outscored Yazoo City 36-26 in the third and fourth quarters combined to come back to take a 51-45 decision.
The loss, Yazoo’s fifth in a row, dropped the Lady Indians to 5-16 overall with four games remaining on the schedule.
Yazoo City opened the game in commanding fashion behind the hot-hand of Destiny Henderson. Henderson scored all nine of Yazoo City’s first quarter points as the Lady Indians led the Lady Arrows 9-1. Clinton rallied back with a 14-10 second quarter to narrow the YHS lead to four, 19-15, at the intermission.
The game’s momentum would swing back and forth in the third quarter as neither team was able to completely pull away from the other. Clinton ended the quarter with 14 points to Yazoo City’s 13 leaving the Lady Indians ahead 32-29 and clinging to a three point lead with one quarter left to play.
The Lady Arrows, however, were able to close out the quarter and the game with a 22-13 run down the stretch, fueled by their clutch free throw shooting. Clinton connected on 8-of-10 free throws in the final quarter to help preserve the win.
Henderson led all scorers with a game-high 24 points followed in double figures by Casharla Collins with 17. The only other Lady Indian scorers were Gabriella Campbell and Tykelia Green with two points apiece.

The Indians of Yazoo City High have hit a three game losing skid with a 53-39 loss to Clinton High School on Friday night.
The loss dropped the Indians’ record to 15-6.
It was Yazoo City that struck first in the contest. They outscored Clinton 12-10 to take an early lead heading into the second quarter.
Clinton slowly gained a lead in the second quarter with a 12-10 performance that put them up 22-20 at the half.
The Arrows’ momentum continued after the break. They were able to put up 16 points to Yazoo City’s 14 points to extend their lead to 38-34 with only eight minutes remaining in the contest.
In the final quarter of play, Clinton High School finally pulled away from Yazoo City by outscoring them 15-5 to take the game 53-39.
Yazoo City traveled to district foe Cleveland Tuesday night and visits Greenwood in another district tilt this Friday.
