Yazoo County’s Panthers held off a late run by Yazoo City High to take the second game between the two teams 57-55.
The win split the season series between the two teams.
The Indians got off to a hot start in the contest, outscoring the Panthers 15-11 in the first period, but in the second, Yazoo County heated up in a big way, putting up 21 points to Yazoo City’s 16, giving the Panthers a 32-31 lead heading into the half.
The Panthers played stifling defense in the third period and were able to extend their lead to 45-39 heading into the fourth.
In the final period of play, the Panthers had the tough task of holding onto a slim lead.
Despite putting up 16 points in the fourth, the Indians could not close the gap.
Yazoo County took the contest 57-55.
Leslie Nelson led the Indians in scoring with 20 points, including six from 3-point land.
Chavis Banks and Sam Johnson each chipped in 11 points in the loss.
Yazoo City High School (5-4) will attempt to get back to their winning ways on Friday when they travel to face Greenville.
Tip-off for the game is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Panthers (3-3) will attempt to keep their momentum going on Monday when they host South Delta.
