Manchester Academy’s baseball team went 2-0 against Deer Creek School this week to improve to 3-1 on the year.
In the first inning, a Blayke Dendy RBI double brought home Ty Kilpatrick, and a passed ball brought home Dendy to give the Mavs a 2-0 lead.
Deer Creek struck back in the second inning with a run to cut the lead to 2-1.
Errors helped the Mavericks lengthen their lead to 4-1 in the third inning, giving them a bit of breathing room.
The Mavericks broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth innings with three runs to push their lead to 7-1.
After running up three runs in the sixth inning, the Mavericks had a man on third and senior Rainer Roberts up to bat.
The game was ended with a Roberts sac fly that brought Manchester’s lead to 11-1, hitting the 10-run rule.
Chris Guthrie earned the win on the mound.
On the following day, the Mavs and Warriors faced off once again.
Both teams found success in the first inning. The Mavericks put up two runs, but the Warriors countered with a run of their own.
At the end of the second inning, it looked as though the Mavericks would quickly run away with it once again.
Highlighted by a Blayke Dendy RBI double, Manchester increased its lead to 5-1.
But in the third, the Warriors fought back to tie it up at 5-5.
Still, Manchester’s powerful offense reared its head again, putting them back up 11-6 heading into the sixth.
After back-to-back RBIs by Jon Riley and Parks Poe, the Mavericks held a 14-6 lead in the sixth, setting up Cade Potter to knock in two more runs, bringing the score to 16-6.
Deer Creek was able to up one more run, but it was nowhere near enough.
Manchester took the second game 16-7.
The Mavs will return to the diamond on Monday when they host Prentiss Christian.The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
