Manchester Academy’s Mavericks locked up the number two seed in the district tournament on Tuesday night when they defeated rival Tri-County Academy 41-35.
Manchester Academy head coach Jacob Isles was pleased with the result and the ramifications from it.
“This was another good district road win,” Isles said. “We grinded and won it out in the end. It ensured that we would be the number two seed in the tournament. We’ll be facing Greenville Christian in the 2-3 game. If there’s any negative about the game, it would be that we play the host team on their own court. I’m proud of how our guys put it together in district play. I think we’re playing our best ball of the season right now.”
The win over Tri-County brought Manchester’s district record to 5-3 on the season.
26 of Manchester’s 41 points came from freshman in the win.
Parks Poe led the Mavs with 16 points.
Will Peeler had six points in the victory.
Jon Riley Poe rounded out the freshman points with four points.
Junior Hayes Bardwell put up eight points and 10 rebounds in the winning effort.
The Mavericks will return to the court on Thursday night when the play Greenville Christian in the district tournament.
Isles believes the game is of vital importance.
“I can’t stress enough how important this game will be,” Isles said. “If we win, we’ll get a shot at St. Joe, most likely, for the district title. Even with a loss there, getting that far will give us a much better seed at North State. If we lose, we’ll have to win in the consolation game. The Greenville Christian game is pivotal for our postseason success.”
The time of play is to be determined.
