After a rainy start to the baseball season, Manchester Academy split a pair of games with Indianola Academy and Bayou Academy to improve to 1-1.
In their first game of the contest, the Mavs faced off with a strong Indianola Academy team.
The Colonels took an early 2-0 lead to put pressure on the Mavs.
Indianola extended their lead when a player was hit by a pitch. They followed that up with a 3-run double to push their lead to 6-0 before Manchester could get out of the jam.
After getting on base, Blayke Dendy broke the Mavericks’ scoreless side by making it home an Indianola error. Blake Coghlan followed that up with an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-2.
A 2-run homer and another RBI pushed the Colonels’ lead to 9-2.
Luke Richards responded for the Mavs with a 2-run single in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 9-4.
Indianola put up four more in the top of the seventh to extend their lead to 13-4 with few opportunities remaining for the Mavs.
A Cade Potter 3-run bomb and a Chris Guthrie RBI gave Indianola a good sweat, but it ultimately was not enough.
The Mavs fell 13-8 in their opener.
Against Bayou Academy on Tuesday night, the Mavs hit their stride a bit earlier in the game.
In the first inning, Will Fouche scored on an error, and a Ty Kilpatrick sac-fly brought home Blayke Dendy to give the Mavs a 2-0 lead.
Fouche struck again with an RBI single in the fourth inning before Dylan Dendy came home on an error. An RBI double by Blayke Dendy finally ended the scoring for Manchester in the inning, giving them a 5-0 lead.
Blake Coghlan put the finishing touches on Manchester’s first win of the season with an RBI in the fifth inning.
Manchester defeated Bayou 6-0 to improve to 1-1 on the season.
