The Lady Raiders of Benton Academy are off to one of their best starts in years with a 5-2 record in the early portion of the schedule.
Under the tutelage of newly-hired girls’ head coach Casey Arbuckle, the Lady Raiders have a renewed sense of urgency.
The season started off well for the Lady Raiders, as Arbuckle earned her first win with the Lady Raiders in her first try. They faced off with Columbus Christian Academy and won the contest 48-30.
Benton continued their success in their second game of the season against Lee Academy, where they won 43-37.
In their third game of the season, the Lady Raiders faced their toughest foe of the season: Washington School.
Arbuckle’s Lady Raiders suffered their first loss of the season against the Generals by a score of 35-23.
12 days passed until their next contest against Central Holmes Christian School, and the Lady Raiders were up to the challenge.
Unfortunately for Arbuckle’s squad, they came up just short in a 37-36 defeat that brought their record down to 2-2.
The Lady Raiders are a resilient bunch this year, and they bounced back from the back-to-back losses with a 47-30 win over Sharkey-Issaquena Academy.
A week later Sharkey had their opportunity for revenge when the two teams faced off in the rematch.
The result, however, was largely the same, as the Raiders prevailed by a score of 52-30.
Benton was given an opportunity on November 10 to extend their winning streak to three games when they faced off with Winona Christian School.
The Lady Raiders accepted and completed the challenge, winning the game 34-32.
Benton Academy’s games scheduled for Friday against Clinton Christian were canceled Thursday.
