The Manchester Academy Lady Mavericks wrapped up another successful basketball season this weekend after playing three games and placing 4th in the MAIS Class AA State Tournament held at Sylva Bay.
Led by Coach Emily Poe, the Manchester girls finished their season with an overall season record of 26-8.
The Lady Mavericks played their first game at the State Tournament on Tuesday, Feb, 18, defeating Columbus Christian 47-42.
Advancing to the next round on Friday, Feb. 21, the Manchester girls played Game 2 against Centreville Academy, but fell in a close game 51-48.
Still in the tournament, the Lady Mavericks moved on to Game 3 on Saturday, Feb. 22, for a chance to move forward into the Overall Tournament.
The Manchesters girls put up a good fight in their final match against Claiborne Academy, eventually falling 48-37, but securing the rank of 4th place in the MAIS Class AA in girls basketball.
Lady Mavericks sophomore Lizzy Carpenter was named to the State All Tournament team for her performance on the court.
Seniors Hanna Havens and Dalyn Burroughs wrapped up their high school careers contributing to another success season for Manchester Academy girls basketball.
The future looks bright for the Lady Mavericks as many starters will return, including top scorer Lanie Potter, who was hindered by ankle injury in the state tournament and unable to compete in the South State title game at Greenville Christian earlier.
Junior starters Anna Kate Griffin and Ivy Sowell will also return next season along with others who saw significant playing time during the season.
