Manchester Academy’s Lady Mavericks split games against Carroll Academy and Central Holmes Christian School in their return from the Thanksgiving Holidays.
The two games were completely different in tone, intensity and result.
In their first outing against Carroll on Monday, the Lady Mavericks dropped the contest 63-37.
According to Manchester head coach Emily Poe, the lengthy break took its toll.
“Coming off of the break, I think we still had too much Thanksgiving on our brains,” Poe said. “We played a really blah game. It wasn’t good. We got into foul trouble early, and we had to turn to our junior high girls. It was one to forget.”
Manchester had to put the loss behind them quickly because they faced Central Holmes the following night.
Poe believed they had a far better showing in their second game in as many days.
“We regrouped on Tuesday night when we faced Central Holmes,” Poe said. “We played a very good game as a team.”
The Lady Mavericks came and put together a dominating 48-21 victory
Macy Huggins led the Lady Mavs in scoring with 15 points.
Suzanne King was right behind Huggins with 12 points in the victory.
Libbi Kyle Ragland put up eight points in the win.
Gracie Jones knocked down six points.
Elise Sowell had four points, while Hannah Trammell and Ashlee Sowell each had two points.
The scoring by numerous Lady Mavericks was a good thing to see for Poe.
“Our scoring was scattered out throughout the whole team,” Poe said. “We weren’t relying on that one person to score all of our points for us. We’re better when everyone scores.”
Manchester tried to improve their conference record in a rematch with St. Al on Thursday, but it was not upon completion by press time.
The Lady Mavericks will return to action on Monday when they host Winona Christian.
Tip-off for the first game is set for 3 p.m.
